ABOUT MISSIONCRAFT

MISSIONCRAFT 2019 is designed to equip clinical practitioners with advanced practical skills and knowledge to provide quality effective leadership and acute care in resource constrained environments. This four-day intensive course combines principles of the Missioncraft in Disaster Relief® course with in-depth clinical and leadership training. The workshop is offered to medical professionals who plan to deploy and provide hands-on, acute care to many patients with limited resources. The course is designed for experienced clinicians to gain knowledge and competencies that enable them to lead teams of medical professionals into low-resource emergency contexts. Classroom-based training will be enhanced by field-based training; MGH-Global Disaster Response, in conjunction with The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI), will host a two-day outdoor training where participants will set up and operate a field hospital station, as part of an overall disaster simulation.

Objectives:

  • Gain a comprehensive set of skills for use in clinical disaster management.
  • Develop the public health competencies required for developing a health response for disaster response in resource poor settings.
  • Identify effective leadership and management skills for working in the humanitarian space.
  • Assess the complexities involved in the current changing humanitarian response sector.
  • Develop team leadership skills in austere environments.
  • Develop project management skills for operating medical missions after a sudden onset disaster.

Target Audience:

  • This workshop is intended for experienced healthcare personnel anticipating future deployments to disaster situations, as medical team leaders or medical coordinators.
  • Those who have deployed in humanitarian emergencies or functioned in support positions for deployment are also welcome to register.
